Techo Santepheap Angkol Beach Road Officially Opens in Kep

PHNOM PENH: According to the Agency Kampuchea Press (AKP), Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Manet presided over the official opening of the Techo Santepheap Angkol Beach Road in Kep province this morning.

The 12.645-kilometer road, situated in Angkol commune, Damnak Chang-er district, Kep province, was constructed by KIRI Dangrek Construction Co., Ltd. and M.T.A Construction Co., Ltd.

over a 24-month period from January 2022 to January 2024. The total cost of the project was approximately US$10 million, funded by a concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s budget.

In his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated the people of Kep on this new achievement, emphasizing the road’s potential to significantly boost tourism in the coastal province by attracting both domestic and international visitors.

H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, highlighting the road’s contribution to facilitating travel, transportation, and tourism development along the beach. He expressed gratitude to the ADB and other stakeholders for their continued support of Cambodia’s development, particularly in the infrastructure sector.

The Techo Santepheap Angkol Beach Road is a sub-project of the Second Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project. It connects Kep provincial city to tourism and fishing communities in Angkol commune.

Minister Ponea also noted that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has completed two other sub-projects under the same initiative: a landfill with a capacity of over 720,000 tonnes of garbage and Koh Tonsay tourism port. These three sub-projects are crucial components of the Kep Tourism Development Master Plan 2023-2035, aiming to transform Kep into a major tourism destination.
