Cyprus’ Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works has announced the launch of the first urban express bus route, aimed at improving commuter efficiency and easing traffic congestion in the capital, Nicosia.
Starting Tuesday, December 17, 2024, and in collaboration with the operating company Cyprus Public Transport, the new Route X13 will be operational. The route is designed to offer a faster and more efficient travel solution for residents while contributing to the decongestion of city traffic.
The X13 route will run daily from 07:00 to 15:00, with buses departing every hour. It will begin at the transfer station at Makarios Stadium and end at Solomou Square. The route will pass key landmarks such as the House of Representatives and the Courts, connecting major points in the city with minimal stops. This streamlined service is expected to reduce travel times for passengers, making daily commuting easier.
Initially, the X13 will operate as a pilot project in Nicosia, allowing authorities to gather data and assess its performance. The trial phase will help evaluate usage patterns, with plans for full implementation by early January 2025.
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of public transport services and better meet the needs of the travelling public.
