Local authorities partner with Invest Cyprus to boost FDI

Invest Cyprus on Monday announced the launch of a series of strategic meetings with regional and local authorities aimed at mapping and promoting investment projects that are open to foreign investors.

According to the announcement, this initiative seeks to enhance collaboration between local government and the organisation to position Cyprus as a prime destination for international investments.

The first meeting in this series was held on Friday, December 6, 2024, in the Famagusta region.

It was organised in collaboration with the Famagusta district local government organisation (Eoa) and attended by local authorities.

The agency explained that the meeting marked a significant step towards fostering regional cooperation to boost investment opportunities.

The event began with an address by Yiannis Karousos, president of the regional Eoa.

Karousos highlighted the importance of investing in local development and the need for collaboration to foster a sustainable investment environment.

During the meeting, Marios Tannousis, CEO of Invest Cyprus, presented the organisation’s services, including the “Project Bank”, which aims to facilitate the promotion of investment projects to interested parties.

Elsewhere, Konstantinos Souroullas, EU Project Manager at the CARDET research centre, introduced tools developed under the European BAS project, such as the Training Needs Analysis Report and the Capacity Management Toolbox for Business Attraction.

These tools, the agency explained, were designed to help local authorities improve their strategies for attracting business investments.

The event also included remarks from mayor of Paralimni-Deryneia George Nikolettos, and mayor of Ayia Napa Christos Zannetou.

Both officials underlined the importance of implementing significant investment projects to promote regional development and stressed the need for cooperation between local and state authorities, as well as investors.

The meeting also underscored the importance of strengthening ties between local authorities and Invest Cyprus to effectively promote the Famagusta district’s potential as an investment destination.

“Invest Cyprus would like to thank the president of the Famagusta Eoa and the mayors of Ayia Napa and Paralimni-Deryneia for their positive response to this meeting and constructive dialogue,” the agency said.

“Similar meetings with other regional and local authorities are planned for the first quarter of 2025,” the announcement concluded.
