The Deputy Ministry of Tourism has set a January 25 deadline for stakeholders to submit suggestions regarding the Paphos Marina project, following the publication of its basic specifications.
George Mais, president of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the ministry published the marina’s key characteristics before Christmas to allow potential consortia and bidders to begin preparations.
Speaking to Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Mais said the ministry will invite expressions of interest after the consultation period ends, followed by a pre-selection process for consortia meeting the project requirements before proceeding to the tender stage.
Representatives from the firm responsible for preparing the tender documents recently met with Paphos Chamber officials, as part of the ministry’s planned stakeholder consultations, Mais said.
“We maintain contact and will submit in writing by January 25 – the deadline set by the ministry’s publication – some of our views which appear not to have been fully adopted,” Mais told CNA.
Local stakeholders are pushing to avoid further delays in finding an investor for the major development planned for Potima Bay in Kissonerga, he said. While the current timeline cannot be compressed further, officials are focused on establishing clear terms to prevent complications during the bidding process and avoid previous issues with unsuccessful bidders appealing to the Review Authority and courts.
If interest materialises, the project tender is expected to be awarded in early 2026, with authorities placing significant emphasis on careful formulation of tender terms to prevent future complications.
