Alpha Bank outlines growth strategy for Cyprus expansion

Alpha Bank’s senior leadership met with state officials and key business figures in Cyprus this week, in order to outline its growth strategy and expansion plans.

According to an official announcement from the bank, this four-day visit “reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its presence in Cyprus, positioning its subsidiary as a leading banking choice for businesses and households”.

The high-level delegation included Alpha Bank Group Chairman Dimitris Tsitsiragos and Group CEO Vassilis Psaltis, who met with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, House Speaker Annita Demetriou, and leading business representatives.

The discussions focused on Alpha Bank’s long-term vision, which includes both organic growth and expansion into new financial services.

The visit followed Alpha Bank’s recent agreement to acquire the operations of Astrobank, something wihch the bank described as a mark of “a significant expansion in the Cypriot market”.

Moreover, the bank’s leadership “highlighted its commitment to corporate lending, mortgage services, and tailored financial products for affluent clients”.

“Alpha Bank Group will stand alongside every effort to strengthen economic and social progress, supporting investment and business financing across key sectors such as shipping, energy, tourism, industry, and construction,” said Psaltis.

“By leveraging our expertise, our team’s specialisation, and our partnership with UniCredit, we are building a bridge that connects Cypriot businesses and citizens with the heart of Europe,” he added.

Alongside Tsitsiragos and Psaltis, the delegation included Deputy CEO Lazaros Papagaryfallou, Chief of Wholesale Banking Ioannis Emiris, Chief of Commercial Banking Tilemachos Georgakis, Chief Wealth Management Officer Giorgos Michalopoulos, and CEO of Alpha Asset Management Panagiotis Antonopoulos.

The visit was coordinated by Alpha Bank Cyprus CEO Miltos Michailas and the subsidiary’s Board Chairman, Michalis Kolakidis.

Michailas underscored Alpha Bank’s strategic ambitions in Cyprus. “With our recent decision to strengthen our presence further, we aim to be the bank of choice for SMEs, large corporations, and households on the island,” he said.

“Through strategic investments and financing, with an emphasis on innovation and outward-looking development, we are here to support investment attraction and the pursuit of sustainable growth and progress,” he added.

Alpha Bank also said that it has positioned itself as a gateway to European financial markets for Cypriot businesses.

During an event attended by top business executives, the bank’s leadership outlined its competitive advantages and strategic initiatives.

The bank highlighted its strategic partnership with UniCredit, which provides Cypriot companies with access to a broad European banking network, specialised financing solutions, and cross-border banking expertise.

In addition, it mentioned the introduction of new private banking and wealth management services.

The bank said that these “aim to offer high-net-worth individuals world-class financial solutions tailored to asset management, growth, and protection”.

Furthermore, the bank shed a spotilight on its “focus on seamless banking services across multiple jurisdictions, including Greece, Cyprus, London, and Luxembourg, ensuring an efficient banking experience with minimal bureaucracy”.

“The transformation we are undertaking is not just about strengthening Alpha Bank Cyprus—it is about giving momentum to the Cypriot economy itself,” Psaltis stated.
