The city of Limassol is set to gain an advanced private healthcare facility through a substantial €50 million investment, pending final regulatory approvals from local authorities.
C & SO Medical Properties Ltd has submitted all necessary documentation and studies for the proposed American Medical Center, which would bring specialised medical services to the city, complementing the company’s existing facility in Nicosia.
The development represents a significant expansion of private healthcare infrastructure in Cyprus’s second-largest city, with investors confirming that construction could be completed within 18 months once permits are secured.
“All preparations from the investors’ side are complete for the construction of the American Medical Center / American Heart Institute,” a company spokesperson told philenews.
“The funding is secured, designs and studies have been finalised, and the contractor is ready to begin work”.
However, sources familiar with the project indicate some concern regarding delays in the issuance of planning permission – a challenge reportedly affecting numerous developments across the island.
The proposed hospital will be constructed near the former Limassol General Hospital on a 2,000 square metre plot. According to submitted plans, the facility will feature:
- A 10-storey main building with two underground levels
- 68 inpatient beds
- CT and MRI scanning equipment
- Helicopter landing pad on the roof
- Emergency services department
- Surgical theatres
- Intensive care unit
The two underground levels will primarily serve as parking areas, while the ground floor will house patient examination spaces. Levels 1 and 2 will provide additional parking, with the remaining floors (levels 3-9) accommodating surgical theatres, patient rooms, and staff facilities.
Level 10 will contain storage areas and support equipment, with the helipad positioned on the roof to facilitate emergency medical transport.
The private hospital plans to deliver comprehensive healthcare services including:
- Complete diagnostic medical examinations
- Emergency care for immediate treatment of urgent cases
- Scheduled and emergency surgical procedures
- Physical rehabilitation services following injuries or operations
- Intensive care for critically ill patients
- Inpatient accommodation
- Imaging services (X-rays, CT and MRI scans)
- Continuous nursing care and patient monitoring
- 24-hour emergency medical response
C & SO Medical Properties Ltd established its first facility in Nicosia in 1999 as Cyprus’s first private specialised cardiac institute, which has since expanded to offer a broad spectrum of medical and surgical services.
The company plans to demolish existing structures on the site to create additional parking space in an adjacent area, addressing urban parking challenges in central Limassol.
