The upcoming Angkor Sankranta event will serve as a powerful catalyst for promoting Cambodia’s tourism destinations as well as rich cultural heritage to foreign tourists, said Sok Sabayna, Executive Director of the 2025 Angkor Sankranta event.
Speaking at a workshop to promote the Angkor Sankranta 2025 on Wednesday, Sabayna said the event has contributed greatly to supporting Siem Reap province’s tourism industry by showcasing key tourist destinations and showcasing various forms of Khmer art and culture to national and international tourists.
In 2023, the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sankranta, Siem Reap province received more than 2 million tourists, contributing more than $126 million in cash flow, he said.
“For this year, the Angkor Sankranta will help promote tourism and cultural arts, through major entertainment programs during the event,” he said.
“Participating in the promotion of Angkor Sankranta is an important contribution to helping the economy of Siem Reap by showcasing major tourist destinations to the world,” he added.
Prime Minister Hun Manet has officially announced the return of the large-scale Angkor Sankranta event in Siem Reap province over three days – April 14, 15 and 16 – for the 2025 Khmer New Year celebrations, with a strong focus on attracting more tourists and highlighting Cambodia’s cultural treasures.
According to the event committee, preparations are underway to ensure the event’s success, with key venues around Angkor Wat and Siem Reap City being readied for the festivities.
Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining affordable tourism services and ensuring a welcoming experience for all visitors.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, in addition to Siem Reap province, Sankranta events will also be organized in several provinces, cities, and districts across the country, bringing joy to local residents on the occasion of the Khmer New Year.
The ministry has stated that the 2025 Angkor Sankranta event in Siem Reap province will see a significant increase in the number of national and international tourists compared to last year’s celebration.
