The two-day “Angkor: The Smile of Cambodia” is an important event to promote arts and culture for tourism in the land of the glorious history of Siem Reap Angkor.
The remarks were made by Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Dr. Phoeurng Sackona at the opening ceremony of the Second Edition of “Angkor: The Smile of Cambodia”, held in front of Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap province this morning.
Through the event, the Minister underlined, national and international tourists can learn more about Cambodian culture and traditions and take part in their preservation and their promotion.
Themed “We work together for culture and tourism,” the “Angkor: The Smile of Cambodia” is considered the biggest cultural event in Cambodia in late this year.
It is the combination of two programmes: first, “The Wonders of the Khmer Empire of the Angkorian period”, a spectacular performance about the heroism of King Jayavarman VII by hundreds of artists at the Angkor Wat Temple complex; and second, the “Smile of Cambodia,” which shows the morality, culture, and traditions of the Khmer people associated with the temples as well as famous tourist destinations, along with exhibitions showcasing Khmer cuisine, traditional attire, and souvenirs crafted by Cambodians, and warm hospitality with smiles for national and international tourists.
Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts in cooperation with the Khmer Artists Association and relevant institutions in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Coronation Day (Oct. 29, 2004 – Oct. 29, 2024), this event features an extraordinary spectacular display highlighting the rich, long-standing culture and ancient civilisation of Asia, said the Ministry of Tourism, adding that it includes a grand parade with a marching band, over 500 renowned artists, and cultural performances within Angkor temples—a historical and cultural event that has not been celebrated since ancient times.
