Australia vows to foster cooperation with Cambodia

Australia has pledged to strengthen further and expand its cooperation with Cambodia and support the Kingdom’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2029.

Derek Yip, the Australian ambassador to Cambodia, made the commitment when he paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on Friday afternoon.

The ambassador also expressed Australia’s support for the launch of the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1, which will promote a resilient and sustainable economic development of Cambodia.

For his part, Hun Manet congratulated Derek Yip on his appointment as the Ambassador of Australia to Cambodia and thanked Australia for its contribution to Cambodia’s peace-seeking process and socio-economic development.

The Cambodian Premier and Ambassador spoke highly of the good, strong, and lasting relations and cooperation between the two countries and discussed strengthening and expanding cooperation in several key areas, including trade, economy, investment, clean energy, health, education, defence and security, and training.

Hun Manet stressed the importance of dialogue and mechanisms for exchanging information on important topics to both countries. AKP
