Cambodia and Europe discuss mechanisms to boost trade ties

Strategies to boost trade and economic relations between Cambodia and Europe were discussed as Tekreth Kamrang, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, received Salah Essa, Head of delegation and Honorary Consul of Cyprus with Honorary Consuls from Austria, Italy, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

They exchanged views on mechanisms to promote bilateral trade relations between Cambodia and the five countries and further understand policies and regulations related to trade and business as well as investment opportunities in Cambodia.

The establishment of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in Phnom Penh last year marks a significant step in strengthening economic relations between Cyprus and Cambodia.

The new consulate has become a hub for bilateral exchanges, offering a gateway to enhanced cooperation and understanding between the two nations.

Tekreth Kamrang recently observed that regional and bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) have promoted market diversification, helping foster Cambodia’s growth and development.

Kamrang said Cambodia’s economy grew by six percent in 2024 and is expected to reach 6.3 percent in 2025. “These positive trends are paving the way for Cambodia to graduate from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) status in 2029 and to achieve our vision of becoming a high-income country by 2050,” she added.
