Cambodia attracts FDI worth $3.4 billion in first four months

From January to April 2025, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved investment projects worth approximately $3.4 billion, an increase of 34 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

According to the CDC, the registration of investment projects increased to 231, 80 percent from 128 in the same period last year.

In April alone, the CDC approved 59 investment projects with a total investment capital of approximately $860 million and the potential to create approximately 39,000 jobs.

Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the CDC, attributed the sharp rise to peace, political and macroeconomic stability, better legal frameworks and regulations, and the growth of the Cambodian economy.

“Investors can submit their investment application online without having to physically go to Cambodia. This eliminates the physical interface between the private sector and public sector, which can help cut down on corruption issues,” he said.

The government has been proactive in addressing the difficulties and challenges of the private sector for both domestic and foreign investors, he said.

Investment law, skilled labour, trade preference schemes and a newly launched investment approval system, allowing for one-click approval of investment projects and making the process faster and more streamlined for investors are catalysts in attracting new investment, Chanthol said.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has recently underscored Cambodia’s commitment to open policies regarding trade and international investment, emphasizing the strategic advantages these policies offer, including political and economic stability, greater access to wider markets, and enhanced regulatory frameworks.

He further stated that Cambodia has consistently invested, and will continue to invest in essential physical infrastructure networks such as high-speed roads, deep-water ports, international airports, and special economic zones.

Mr Hun Manet also affirmed Cambodia’s dedication to reducing trade barriers, simplifying customs procedures, facilitating business registration, and fostering a transparent legal environment.
