Cambodia, Denmark strengthen diplomatic ties, explore maritime transport development

Cambodia and Denmark have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and expanding diplomatic relations, with a particular focus on maritime transport and port development.

This was highlighted during a courtesy meeting and working discussion yesterday at the CDC’s office between Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and a Danish delegation led by Danny Annan, a Bangkok-based Danish Ambassador to Cambodia.

Chanthol welcomed the Danish delegation and provided insights into the Cambodian government’s policies and strategic plans for developing the country’s waterway, maritime, and port infrastructure.

The discussion centred on Cambodia’s potential for expanding its deep-sea port capacity, particularly in coastal provinces such as Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Koh Kong.

Chanthol highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance port infrastructure, reflecting the Cambodian government’s long-term commitment to improving connectivity and trade competitiveness.

He also introduced the “Funan Techo Canal” project, which aims to integrate Cambodia’s waterway transport system further and boost its economic competitiveness.

Following the briefing, the Danish delegation, consisting of experts in maritime transport and port operations, expressed keen interest in Cambodia’s infrastructure developments.

They acknowledged the country’s progress in port expansion and modernisation and indicated that they would conduct further assessments to explore potential investment opportunities.

Concluding the meeting, both sides reiterated their shared commitment to deepening diplomatic ties and cooperation, paving the way for stronger bilateral relations and future collaboration in key infrastructure sectors. AKP
