‘Cambodia Foods Show’ in Japan to boost economic diplomacy

The Cambodian Embassy in Japan in collaboration with the ASEAN-Japan Center plans to organise the ‘Cambodia Foods Show’, to promote food diplomacy and enhance import-export activities of Cambodian goods as part of the country’s economic diplomacy strategy.

Tuy Ri, Cambodian Ambassador to Japan, and Sin Saray, Commercial Attaché to the Cambodian Embassy in Japan, Tuesday met with representatives of the ASEAN-Japan Center to discuss preparations for the Cambodia Foods Show.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) yesterday, “The Cambodia Foods Show is scheduled to be held at the Cambodian Embassy in Japan on February 21, 2025. The event aims to promote Khmer cuisine and potential Cambodian products, as well as to advance Cambodian culinary diplomacy and the import and export activities of Cambodian goods under the economic diplomacy strategy.”

The exhibition will feature cooking demonstrations by Cambodian chefs, cultural performances, displays of Cambodian products, and presentations on Cambodian cuisine and tourism potential, read the statement.

“Notably, there will be a Food Tasting Networking session, which serves as an important platform for establishing business relationships between participating companies and Japanese travel agents.”

It will also provide an opportunity to encourage more Japanese investors and tourists to visit Cambodia.

Earlier this month, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) organised the Japan Travel Fair at the AEON Mall Sen Sok (or AEON 2) to promote Japanese culture and tradition among Cambodian people and strengthen tourism connection between the two countries.

According to the report of Ministry of Commerce (MoC), bilateral trade volume between Cambodia and Japan reached $1.95 billion in 2024, in increase 18.94 percent compare to the previous year.

The report said that Cambodia’s exports totalled $1.272 billion in 2024, up 19. 38 percent. Additionally, the number of Japanese companies and enterprises registered in Cambodia was 88, a 20.55 percent increase.
