Cambodia, Korea agree to strengthen EV skills training to attract investors

A technical skills training program in electric vehicles could help attract more Korean investors to Cambodia, said Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training (MLVT), during a meeting with Kim Jin-Pyo, former Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and Board Chairman of Global Together on Wednesday.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their support for technical skills training programs, particularly in electric vehicles, to develop a skilled workforce in Cambodia.

Sour emphasized, “This training program could help attract more Korean investors to Cambodia by equipping Cambodian students with technical skills comparable to those in Korea.”

Additionally, the Minister noted that having a large pool of skilled students would be a crucial factor in supporting the establishment of a Korean special economic zone in Cambodia.

He further stated that the MLVT is prepared to facilitate concrete requests and cooperation for this initiative between Cambodia and Korea.

In response, Kim Jin-Pyo expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration between the Republic of Korea and the Royal Government of Cambodia, particularly between the Korean Polytechnic Institute and Cambodia’s National Polytechnic Institute (NPIC) under the MLVT.

He highlighted that the electric vehicle technical training program would contribute to the development of a skilled workforce in Cambodia.

Kim Jin-Pyo also expressed hope that, through collaboration between the MLVT, KOICA, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cambodia, the training program would yield positive results, ensuring that Cambodia has a workforce capable of meeting the needs of foreign investors.
