Cambodia makes over $384 mln​ from exports of milled rice, rubber in first 5 months

According to official reports on Wednesday, Cambodia earned a total of $384.4 million from the exports of milled rice and dry rubber during the first five months of 2024.

A report from the Cambodia Rice Federation indicated that the kingdom exported 302,592 tons of milled rice to 63 countries and regions during the January-May period this year, making $219.9 million in revenue from the exports of the commodity.

The report said China remained a major buyer of the commodity, adding that the Southeast Asian country shipped 73,322 tons of milled rice to China during the above-mentioned period, earning a gross revenue of $46.2 million.

The General Directorate of Rubber reported a notable increase in Cambodia’s rubber exports. The country exported 110,772 tonnes of dry rubber in the first five months this year, up 2.42 percent from 108,148 tonnes in the same period last year, further boosting its export earnings.

The Kingdom made $164.5 million in revenue from dry rubber exports during the January-May period this year, up 7.4 percent from $153.1 million during the same period last year.

Both rice and rubber are among the country’s potential cash crops, in addition to cashew nuts, yellow bananas, mangoes, and longans.Xinhua
