Cambodia marks 26 years of peace, longest in 500 years, says PM Hun Manet

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined that Cambodia’s era of full peace is nearly 26 years old, marking the longest period of peace the country has experienced in almost 500 years.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Dec. 7) during the opening of the 20th General Assembly of Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

“Cambodia’s full peace is only 26 years old, but this represents the longest period of peace in Cambodia’s history in at least 500 years,” the premier underscored.

He stated that 29 December is a historical milestone. This date commemorates the successful implementation of the win-win policy introduced by Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate. Cambodians of all ages and religions remember this policy.

Prime Minister Hun Manet noted that at the end of November, Cambodia successfully hosted several international events, including the Meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Central Democrat Organisation (CDI), the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), and the 14th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP). Delegates from around the world praised Cambodia’s remarkable transformation, considering its past tragedies and challenges.

Cambodia’s international partners have acknowledged the country’s lessons in peace-building, national unity, and religious harmony, despite Buddhism being the state religion.

Today, under the stability of Cambodian peace, religious conflicts are virtually unheard of. The Cambodian Muslim community has consistently received recognition and support, reflecting the nation’s commitment to religious inclusion and harmony. Fresh News
