President of National Assembly, Khuon Sudary, recently urged Chen Jiaquan, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress in China to encourage more people to invest in Cambodia.
Sudary met with Chen Jiaquan at the International Airport in Guangzhou city, Guangdong Province on Sunday briefly as she was waiting for a flight to Beijing, according to the press release of the National Assembly (NA) on Monday.
Sudary also expressed her gratitude to the Chinese friends, especially the Guangdong provincial authorities, even though the delegation only passed through the province for a short time. Still the provincial parliament welcomed them warmly which shows the traditional and the ironclad friendship of the two countries.
“On that occasion, Sudary requested Chen Jiaquan to promote trade and investment between the two countries,” read the release.
Sudary was quoted saying Prime Minister Hun Manet always paid attention to protect the interests of local and foreign investors.
“Cambodia is peaceful, stable and strong and has many investment laws and legal standards to ensure the protection and encouragement of investors,” she underlined.
Both sides also praised the traditional friendship, cooperation and strategic partnership between Cambodia and China. They stated that the Cambodia-China friendship is a model of international relations based on the principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit.
Chen Jiaquan said that to further strengthen the relationship between the National Assembly of Cambodia and the National People’s Congress of Guangdong Province, a delegation from the National Assembly of Guangdong Province is scheduled to pay an official visit to Cambodia in November 2024.
He also highlighted the high potential for trade in Cambodia and he told Sudary and the Cambodia delegation that Guangdong is China’s leading province in terms of trade and the government has established China’s largest Special Economic Zone in the province.
On her part, Sudary warmly recalled the ties between the Cambodian National Assembly and the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress.
“The National Assembly of Cambodia is pleased to welcome the delegation of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Assembly in Cambodia in November,” said Sudary.
Regarding the investments between Cambodia and China, socio-economic researcher Chey Tecy told Khmer Times that the relationship between the two countries has always been cordial and now it is called the ‘Diamond Relations’.
He added that China is the leading investor in Cambodia and it has also provided financing in the forms of development loans and concessional loans for various projects in the country.
“China plays a very important role in both investment and trade with Cambodia,” Tech added.
