Cambodia teams up with Alibaba Cloud to develop E-commerce platform

The Royal Government Friday joined hands with Alibaba Cloud (Singapore) Private Limited to develop the E-commerce platform and digital marketing skills.

A memorandum of understanding on the development of E-commerce, promotion of digital literacy, and marketing skills was signed at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in the presence of Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chea Vandeth, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

Nimul described the MoU as an important step in promoting e-commerce and reflects the efforts of the Royal Government to support digital transformation, create a conducive environment for trade and investment in Cambodia, especially for local SMEs and small family businesses.

Diversifying the economy through digital channels has provided a huge opportunity for businesses to strengthen and seize market opportunities beyond traditional physical markets and contribute to increasing competitiveness in international markets, she added.

“The MoU with Alibaba Cloud (Singapore) Private Limited will help connect Cambodian products to digital markets, creating a huge business opportunity for Cambodian entrepreneurs, directly reaching millions of interested customers for Cambodian products, and allowing them to expand their business operations and address the challenges of accessing new markets,” Nimul said.

It will also create a new digital business environment, fostering inclusive participation, providing opportunities and increasing leverage for local entrepreneurs and businesses, especially small-scale family businesses, informal economy entrepreneurs or other businesses, who will have equal opportunities to showcase and sell their products and talents to local customers and develop their businesses globally, she added.

This collaboration is a step towards contributing to the promotion of the e-commerce sector for Cambodia, increasing the potential of entrepreneurs and technicians in local digital commerce and business to promote the development of an efficient and modern digital economy and society for Cambodia.

For the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the MoU aims to focus on four areas of cooperation – establishing an e-commerce incubator; providing training and capacity building in trade, business and digital marketing; and improving infrastructure and logistics to boost domestic trade efficiency and connect Cambodia’s trade to international trade markets.

Through the MoU, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications will provide additional support to the trade sector by organizing training courses for local entrepreneurs to promote the successful use of digital commerce platforms.

It will strengthen collaboration between the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Commerce on logistics and transportation management through the SuperApp digital platform to ensure smooth and transparent domestic and international transportation.

Vandeth said the MoU is in line with the efforts of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in promoting digital literacy, such as providing digital skills scholarships to students, digital skills development programs, launching a roadmap for digital skills development in Cambodia 2024-2035, establishing the Cambodian Digital Community and Community Technology Center, and many other necessary projects.
