Cambodian Processed Cashew Nuts to Be Available at Airports and on Airlines

PHNOM PENH, August 27, 2024 — In a move to promote Cambodian cashew products within the aviation sector, To Pila, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, and Van Chanty, Director General of Air Transport Policy at the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, recently convened to discuss the introduction of processed cashews for sale at airports and on civil airlines.

The Ministry of Commerce reported that the meeting included participation from the Director General of the General Department of Trade Promotion, professional officers from both the Ministry of Commerce and the Secretariat of Civil Aviation, as well as representatives from international airports, national and international airlines, service providers like Cambodia Air Catering Service, and the Cambodia Cashew Processing Company. During the discussions, representatives from international airports, airlines, and food service providers expressed their full support for the initiative and committed to promoting the implementation of the national policy on cashews.

To Pila emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This effort will help promote, distribute, and increase the use of Cambodian cashew products more widely.”

Previously, the Ministry of Commerce and local enterprises negotiated the sale of processed cashews in Cambodian supermarkets and retail outlets such as Aeon, Makro, Lucky, Chip Mong, Thai Huot, Bayon, Big C, Tela, 7-Eleven, and Cambodian Superstore.

In the first seven months of this year, Cambodia produced 830,000 tons of raw cashew nuts and exported 780,000 tons to Vietnam, generating $1.092 million, a 36.7 percent increase from the previous year. Cambodia is currently the world’s second-largest producer of raw cashew nuts.
