Cambodia’s three international airports including the Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanoukville International Airport, handled a combined 2.52 million air passengers during the first four months of 2025.
These figures soared by 18 percent compared to the same period last year, a report from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation showed yesterday.
From January to April, the airports recorded 22,686 flight movements, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent, stated the report, adding that cargo transport increased by 8 percent to 22,350 tonnes.
In April alone, the report showed that some 600,000 air passengers passed through Cambodia’s airports, up 15 percent compared to April last year.
Sinn Chanserey Vutha, SSCA Secretary of State and spokesperson, shared views of the positive impact of increasing numbers of foreign tourists and investors, coupled with enhanced airport facilities and growing air connectivity.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Vutha said, “The increasing flights have contributed to the facilitation of air travel by providing better options for air passengers, particularly business people and national and international tourists, as well as promoting tourism package services.”
Expressing optimism about the sector’s performance, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) noted that Cambodia will receive 7.5 million air passengers in 2025, marking an anticipated 20 percent rise from the 6.24 million passengers handled in 2024.
Under the open sky policy, the Royal Government’s efforts to improve airport infrastructure and enhance aviation services have also contributed to the sector’s growth.
The government has been actively working to bolster the aviation sector through various initiatives.
The recently approved National Policy on Air Transport 2025-2035 aims to attract 25 million air passengers and handle 205,000 tonnes of air cargo annually by 2035.
This policy focuses on strengthening air connectivity, enhancing airport infrastructure, and creating a favorable business environment for airlines.
