The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cambodia (ECC) Wednesday discussed ways to take the existing diplomatic ties between the two countries to the next level by promoting investment activities and supporting the development of connected infrastructure across the Kingdom.
Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of CDC received a courtesy visit from the ECC delegation led by Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia in Phnom Penh on July 24.
Based on the CDC announcement, the meeting was organised to strengthen the diplomatic ties between the Kingdom and China, building stronger, better and more fruitful relations for the common benefit of the citizens in both nations.
In an effort to strengthen the Cambodia-China friendship, the delegation also exchanged views to further strengthen and expand cooperation, especially on attracting investment from Chinese businessmen and developing inter-connected infrastructure between Cambodia and regional countries.
During the meeting, Chanthol praised the Chinese government and its people for providing support to facilitate investment and develop hard infrastructure which is in line with the new era of the diamond cooperation framework.
Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board (CIB) of CDC, Hoeurn Somnieng, Deputy Secretary General of the General Secretariat of CDC and Brasoeur Molyka, Deputy Director of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Cabinet were present on the occasion.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Lor Vichet, Vice-President of Cambodia Chinese Commerce Association (CCCA) said that Chinese companies have notably invested substantially in infrastructure development in the Kingdom such as constructing roads, expressways, bridges and airports.
Vichet said, “To maximise the extensive upgrading of Cambodia’s physical infrastructure, the Royal Government and Chinese embassy could conduct a feasibility study of a joint-venture airline company between both countries.”
The idea is to capitalise on the ongoing elevated bilateral ties to increase people-to-people relations aimed at fostering the increase of bilateral tourist exchanges which will result in increased business opportunities and investments from China, Vichet added.
