COFCO Bio-Energy Co Ltd, a major Chinese state-owned food processing and trading conglomerate, Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hang Harvest Agriculture Co Ltd, a local company based in Oddar Meanchey province, to purchase 200,000 tonnes of dried cassava.
Lim Lork Piseth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), presided over the ceremony to receive the first shipment of 5,000 tons of Cambodian dried cassava chips held at Beihai Port in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, on March 14.
During the event, COFCO Bio-Energy Co Ltd and Hang Harvest Agriculture Co Ltd signed a phase two agreement — a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the purchase of an additional 200,000 tonnes of Cambodian dried cassava chips for 2025–2026.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Commercial Department of Guangxi Autonomous Region, the Cambodian Commercial Liaison Office in Nanning, the government of Beihai, relevant Beihai authorities, the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank of Cambodia, along with cassava buyers and sellers from both Cambodia and China.
According to MoC, this agreement is expected to strengthen and expand trade cooperation between Cambodia and China while promoting Cambodian cassava exports to the Chinese market.
