Chinese firm to invest $1 billion in tyre production, says PM

A Chinese company will invest $1 billion in tyre production, said Prime Minister Hun Manet in Melbourne on Sunday.

Addressing the Cambodian diaspora living in Australia and New Zealand, Mr Hun Manet highlighted the achievements made by the Royal Government of Cambodia.

The Premier said that ever since the new Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) took office six months ago, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has approved 172 investment projects with a total investment capital of nearly $4 billion from both domestic and overseas, which will generate 190,000 jobs opportunities for local citizens.

The Prime Minister said tomorrow Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) will meet with the Chinese delegation and representatives of 150 companies, and that a tyre production factory has revealed its intention to invest $1 billion in our country.

Due to the trust and confidence in RGC, the existing companies have requested to expand their business operation to many other potential sectors with a budget of $200-$500 million for each company which will create more job opportunities for our people, the premier added.

Mr Hun Manet also said that tomorrow (Tuesday) he will meet with the Australian private sector to attract more investments through the Cambodia-Australia Business Forum, wherein over 200 companies from both countries will participate. “The forum will allow investors to connect their business operations.”

Clearing doubts over that Cambodia only attracts investment from China or some select country, the premier said it is “not true,” adding, “I went around attracting investments from many countries and I welcome investment from everyone. By this, I do not mean that I can attract all the hundred companies that I have met. I consider it a great achievement if only one or two of them come to invest in our country.”

He stressed that the objective of these investments is the creation of job opportunities which will improve the livelihood of our people. This is the priority objective of the new RGC, Mr Hun Manet said.

The Premier described the management of the national economy as the blood in the body that runs in all the veins for human health hence to promote a better national economy, we must create jobs everywhere, especially for people at the grassroots level.

Among the key participants who attended the meeting were Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation (MFAIC), Hangchoun Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS), Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce (MoC) and Kith Meng, President of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) along with high-level government officials. khmertimeskh
