Cybersecurity continues to assume crucial importance as the Kingdom is caught in throes of a digital
transformation. New challenges in the domain are constantly cropping up almost on a daily basis and the IT sector has to be on its toes around the clock to avoid being caught napping which could spell disaster for the organisation involved. Niraj Gupta, Director, Macro Computing Solutions Co. Ltd. elaborated on the immense challenges involved in ensuring cybersecurity in today’s corporate sector in Cambodia.

However on the flipside this has extracted its pound of flesh in the domain of cybersecurity.
As Cambodians increasingly rely on digital platforms for communication, financial transactions, and other activities, they have become potential targets for cyberattacks. To safeguard this digital future, Cambodia is taking proactive steps to address the evolving cybersecurity landscape, explained Gupta.
Across the world, cyber security trends have witnessed a dizzying rise in cyber threats with cybercriminals constantly evolving and adapting techniques to exploit vulnerabilities in systems and networks. This growing global menace is a threat to Cambodia as well enhancing the pressing need for robust cyber security protection.
Recognizing the critical importance of cyber security, the Cambodian government has implemented several initiatives to bolster the nation’s cybersecurity defences, said Gupta. The establishment of The National Authority for Combating Cybercrime, also known as the Department of Anti-Cybercrime, underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and addressing evolving cyber threats.
In addition, the Department of Anti-Cybercrime has joined hands with international organisations with due diligence across sectors for the purpose of boosting the Kingdom’s cybersecurity capabilities. On a mission to ensure a safe digital environment for all Cambodians, they detect and prevent cybercrimes, investigate cyber incidents and prosecute cybercriminals.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has taken note of the urgency of the situation and placed strong emphasis on education and awareness on cybersecurity. It has encouraged and promoted collaboration between educational institutions, organisations and government bodies to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the digital world safely. Training programmes and awareness campaigns have been launched to promote cyber hygiene and build a culture of cybersecurity consciousness among the population.“Cambodia recognizes that an educated and vigilant population is a critical line of defence against cyber threats,” added Gupta.
