Energy Minister George Papanastasiou on Saturday praised the signing of a maintenance, repair and overhaul offload agreement between GE Aerospace and the United Aerospace Maintenance Company (UAMCO) of Cyprus.
He said the agreement would further enhance Cyprus-US strategic cooperation and would upgrade the island’s status as an international business hub.
US ambassador in Nicosia Julie Fisher said she was thrilled about the landmark partnership.
“This deal marks a significant step forward in innovation and collaboration. Together, they are taking flight towards a brighter, more connected future,” she added.
GE Aerospace said the agreement would help it “fulfill its obligations to CFM – a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines – for maintenance, repair and overhaul capacity as part of an open ecosystem for LEAP engines.
“This agreement validates our commitment to safety, quality, technology and innovation – and to a spirit of cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States,” chief executive officer at UAMCO John Savvides said.
He added that “CFM LEAP engines power the world’s most popular passenger aircraft and we look forward to working with GE Aerospace on the maintenance of these engines.”
