Cyprus rolls out training programmes for employed and jobseekers

Cyprus is ramping up efforts to boost workforce skills with a fresh wave of training programmes, set to launch in the second half of 2025.

The schemes have just been approved by the human resources development authority (Anad) and will be delivered exclusively through certified vocational educational centres across the country.

The programmes aim to help both employed and unemployed individuals upgrade their knowledge and skills, while also promoting professional resilience in a fast-changing economy.

Covering every major sector, from business management and digital innovation to sustainability, occupational safety and advanced technical trades, the training is designed to directly support productivity, competitiveness and long-term employability.

Digital upskilling remains central to the initiative, with courses in artificial intelligence, robotics and energy-saving technologies featured prominently.

At the same time, the programmes include targeted modules for the green and blue economies, business continuity, and training of trainers.

Applications must be submitted through the Hermes platform either before the start of the course or prior to completing one quarter of its total duration.

The training is split into three main categories.

The largest track, multi-company training programmes (regular), is intended for employees seeking ongoing professional development tailored to their company’s needs.

Unemployed individuals registered with the department of labour will also take part, supporting their return to the job market.

In total, 3,157 programmes were approved under this stream, reaching over 87,000 participants, with a combined budget of €21.2 million.

A second, more specialised stream, multi-enterprise programmes of vital importance, will focus on upskilling managerial and scientific staff in areas deemed critical for the Cypriot economy.

These high-priority courses will be led by experienced trainers and combine classroom learning with on-the-job application.

A total of 275 programmes were approved for 7,700 participants, backed by €12.1 million in funding.

Meanwhile, continuing training for trade union officials will offer seminars specifically for union representatives, organised by trade union training centres.

These will cover topics relevant to labour rights and union activity.

Eighty-four programmes have been approved in this final category, with 2,300 people expected to participate and a budget of €0.2 million.

Unemployed applicants are advised to contact their nearest department of labour office to secure a referral before registering.
