Digital Economy Forum underscores Kingdom’s rapid digitalization

The Digital Economy Forum 2025 focussed on Cambodia’s advancing digital landscape by fostering digital literacy and promoting the importance of digitalization.

The forum was organized recently at Oakwood Premier Hotel in the capital by the Digital Economy and Business Committee with the support of the Capacity Building Research and Development Fund of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

Leaders and representatives of ministries, institutions of the Cambodian government, the private sector, educational institutions, associations, and development partners attended the forum.

The forum was held to promote the dissemination of knowledge about digital technologies, skills and the importance of digitalization in the digital economy era. It was discussed means to increase the sharing of new ideas, innovations and experiences related to the digital economy and promote the building of networks and business communities and the digital economy in Cambodia.

The forum featured presentations and discussions focusing on the overall aspects of the digital economy and society, digital transformation for enterprises, digital literacy and skills for enterprises, cybersecurity, data protection, digital assets and digital payments.

Each presentation provided the basis for a lively discussion and received important inputs from the distinguished speakers and participants.

In his keynote, Kong Marry, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and General Secretariat of the Digital Economy and Business Committee, highlighted how digitalization can drive innovation, create new business models, and improve productivity across the private sector and the broader economy.

“The rapid development of digital technology and the potential of digitalization accelerate the growth of the digital economy in Cambodia by bringing new business models, promoting innovation, and increasing productivity and efficiency in both the private sector and the economy as a whole,” Marry said.

He encouraged businesspeople and the public to embrace and use digital tools to maximize their benefits, aiming to promote the development of Cambodia’s digital economy and society.

Cambodia’s market value of E-commerce reached approximately $1.12 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $1.81 billion in 2029, thanks to the rapid digital payment adoption, a tech-savvy youth population, rising smartphone penetration, and strong government support, a report from the Ministry of Commerce showed.

The expansion of Cambodia’s E-commerce sector reflects the country’s broader commitment to digital transformation, as outlined in the Pentagonal Strategy Phase I and the Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035, read the report.
