DPM Sar Sokha reaffirms Royal Government’s commitment to citizen welfare and youth development

Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, emphasised that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains highly attentive to the well-being of all citizens, especially the youth, who serve as the nation’s future pillars.

He made these remarks on May 7 during the inauguration ceremony of Buddhism’s achievements at Pean Rong pagoda in Pean Rong village, Pean Rong commune, Svay Antor district, Prey Veng province.

Sokha highlighted Cambodia’s current era of full peace and stability, which provides a strong foundation for sustaining and expanding economic growth. This aligns with the national vision for Cambodia to achieve upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050.

While acknowledging recent progress in reducing juvenile delinquency, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the issue remains a priority, as the decline has not yet met desired targets. He urged all youth to stay away from drugs and called for collaborative efforts among guardians, authorities, and relevant stakeholders to combat narcotics effectively.

The fight against drugs cannot rely solely on law enforcement—it requires a united effort in prevention, suppression, and rehabilitation to achieve meaningful success,” he stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister also directed provincial administrations and local authorities to remain responsive to public concerns, particularly in addressing the needs of vulnerable and impoverished communities.

He emphasised the importance of preparedness in disaster response—including floods, storms, and fires—to ensure timely assistance.

Additionally, he reinforced the implementation of the Safe Village-Commune Policy, focusing on: Cracking down on illegal drug trafficking, gambling, and youth gangs.

Expanding civil registration and identification services for all eligible citizens was also recommended on the occasion.

The Royal Government’s multi-sectoral approach underscores its commitment to safeguarding social stability and fostering sustainable development. AKP
