Municipal carparks in Paralimni and Dherynia will be free of charge over the June 7 and 8 Kataklysmos flood festival and beachgoers will also have access to free high-speed WiFi.

However, Fig Tree Bay carpark will be closed over the holiday to host events from the early hours of Saturday till Monday.

The Paralimni-Dherynia municipality said on Friday that it would be continuing works to upgrade the image of the beaches and offer high-quality services to locals and visitors.

It added that the municipality’s beaches are currently leading in ‘blue flags’, having recently been awarded 18 out of 66 across the island.

Kataklysmos is an ancient Greek tradition taking place 50 days after the Greek Orthodox Easter and celebrates the salvation of Noah from the biblical flood.

The event usually comes with a variety of water-related activities and side events including music and dance performances.

Municipalities have called on the public to be frugal in the use of water.
