The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has approved a request from Kykkos Monastery to develop a significant parcel of land near its “Agios Prokopios” dependency in Nicosia.
The development will take place on a 331,450 square meter plot owned by the Kykkos Bishopric, with construction covering 324,855 square meters of the total area, according to ecclesiastical sources.
The mixed-use development in Engomi will include residential, tourism, commercial, recreational, office, educational, and medical facilities, along with public green spaces and community equipment.
Project specifications
The development plan outlines a comprehensive approach that eschews simple residential subdivision in favour of a multi-purpose complex. According to planning documents, rather than creating 500-600 residential plots, the project will incorporate diverse facilities balanced across several sectors:
- Residential units (32% of the area – 63,526 sq.m)
- Office spaces (28% – 56,586 sq.m)
- Commercial uses (15% – 35,733 sq.m)
- Hotel facilities (12% – 23,821 sq.m)
- Recreation and entertainment (6% – 11,911 sq.m)
- Education and other uses (4% – 9,940 sq.m)
Tourism facilities will include a five-star hotel with 255 rooms, while the medical installations will feature pathology, pediatric, obstetrics-gynecology, surgery, and first aid departments. The educational component will house the Cyprus Academy of Sciences with ceremonial and conference halls.
The existing Engomi Health Center located within the development area will continue to operate.
