Synopsis: MinebeaMitsumi Inc. plans to start a new large-scale factory in Pursat province in December this year.
Senate President Hun Sen yesterday welcomed a prominent Japanese company’s plan to inaugurate a new large-scale factory in Pursat province later this year, expressing his joy and pride in the company’s continued progress in Cambodia.
Mr Hun Sen made the remarks during meeting with Yoshihisa Kainuma, Chairman and CEO of MinebeaMitsumi Inc., at the Senate Palace in the capital.
Chea Thyrith, spokesperson for Mr Hun Sen, told reporters after the meeting that Mr Hun Sen was pleased to reunite with Yoshihisa Kainuma and his delegation after more than a decade of ongoing communication.
During the meeting, Kainuma expressed his appreciation for Hun Sen’s longstanding support, which has contributed significantly to MinebeaMitsumi’s success in Cambodia over the past 14 years, starting from Mr Hun Sen’s time as Prime Minister.
“With this progress, Yoshihisa also confirmed to Samdech Techo that in December 2025 his company will officially launch a new factory in Pursat province, which will create additional job opportunities for Cambodians,” Thyrith said.
Thyrith added that Kainuma also mentioned challenges the company has faced, particularly due to the temporary closure of the Thai border, which has affected the transportation of components essential to the company’s production chain between the two countries.
Mr Hun Sen told Kainuma that Cambodia always called on the Thai side not to allow issues in one border area to affect other sectors, including military, economic, social, and tourism ties.
He expressed his joy in MinebeaMitsumi Inc.’s progress in Cambodia.
Thyrith emphasised Cambodia’s consistent investment policy, stating, “Samdech Techo has upheld the principle of welcoming investment based on a first-come, first-served approach, regardless of a company’s size. In Cambodia, it is rare to see companies – big or small – being rejected or having their operations cancelled. This principle has given investors confidence in Cambodia’s investment environment.”
