Following a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on the side-lines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit two days ago, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto, paid a working visit to Prey Veng Province.
As previously reported in various news outlet, President Jokowi and Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed to advance food security cooperation, especially in relations to the rice trade. President Jokowi expressed hope that Indonesia could import again quality rice from Cambodia at competitive prices.
Meanwhile, in his meeting with the Governor of Prey Veng Suon Somalin, Ambassador Santo highlighted that the momentum of 65 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and Cambodia this year could encourage greater economic cooperation.
“There is excellent potential in the agricultural sector. For this reason, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh is currently conducting studies and analyses on the forms of cooperation that can be developed by the private sector and state-owned enterprises,” said the ambassador.
While in Prey Veng, Ambassador Santo visited two modern, large-scale rice factories capable of producing around three thousand tons of rice per month. The ambassador also visited an aquaculture site located in Chak Klanh Village, Peam Ror Commune.
Ambassador Santo observed that the Cambodian rice industry is ready to support efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s food reserves. “Partnerships in this field can be an important factor in strengthening Indonesia-Cambodia cooperation in the future.” Fresh News
