Jiangsu province has emerged as a key economic partner for Cambodia, with 217 investment projects worth a cumulative $1.84 billion now underway in the Kingdom, according to the Director of the Department of Commerce of China’s eastern Jiangsu province, Si Yong.
The announcement was made during the “Sihanoukville-Jiangsu Investment Cooperation Forum” held in Nanjing, where officials and over 200 Chinese business leaders gathered to strengthen bilateral investment ties. Of the total, 32 projects were initiated in 2024 alone, bringing in fresh capital worth approximately $180 million.
The forum was part of the “Special Programme for Promoting Investment in Sihanoukville 2024,” which runs until the end of the year. Co-organised by the Sihanoukville Provincial Administration, the Sihanoukville Investment Promotion Taskforce, and Jiangsu’s Department of Commerce, the event aimed to bolster Chinese investment in Cambodia’s coastal province.
Si said the surge in investment reflected the growing momentum of the strategic partnership between Cambodia and China, noting that Jiangsu’s projects cover a range of sectors including manufacturing, logistics, real estate, and tourism—many of which are concentrated in Sihanoukville.
Preah Sihanouk provincial Governor Mang Sineth, who presided over the forum alongside other high-ranking officials, highlighted that the province has become a symbol of the “ironclad friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership” between Cambodia and China. He attributed the progress to the alignment of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy–Phase I and China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
He underscored the province’s infrastructure readiness to support new investment, including three international seaports—Keo Phos, Steung Hav, and the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, which can now accommodate vessels of up to 2,000 TEUs. Additionally, the province is connected by expressways, national roads, a railway line, and an airport.
