The Coastal City Development Group Co Ltd (Coastal City), a prominent Chinese firm, has announced a new project in the Dara Sakor area called the ‘Koh Sdach Port Market,’ which could potentially become the first marine market in Cambodia.
The announcement of this commercial project, covering 1.7 hectares in Dara Sakor, a large-scale development area under Coastal City, was reposted on the official page of the Koh Kong Provincial Administration on December 23.
The project aims to integrate the commercial, tourism, and cultural sectors into a united core. It is expected to become a potential hub for trade and a popular tourist destination, offering an unforgettable experience for both domestic and international visitors.
The project established to provide products at affordable prices, catering to the needs of residents and travellers visiting this coastal province is expected to contribute significantly to socio-economic growth and promote sustainable tourism.
This market is situated in a prime location with stunning white sand beaches and competitive pricing, making it an attractive destination for both business ventures and tourist activities.
The market will connect to road links to major attractions including the Go-Kart racing track, Koh Sdach Island and other nearby islands.
With over 310 shop spaces designed to accommodate various businesses offering convenience and a wide range of hospitality and services for tourists visiting the province, the market will soon become a vibrant tourist destination.
The Koh Sdach Port Market offers the largest shop sizes compared to other markets, ranging from 12 to 108 square meters, meeting the diverse needs of traders with various business requirements.
Filled with fresh seafood, local delicacies, a wide variety of products, souvenirs, and handicrafts, the market is poised to become a major attraction for tourists, driving tourism and transforming local citizens’ livelihood.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Kuo Chinkuo, Project Director of Koh Sdach Port Market, said the marine market aligns with government policy under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership to attract tourists to Koh Kong and create more benefits for citizens.
“However, when discussing trips or holidays in coastal areas, many tourists visit Sihanoukville and Kampot provinces, overlooking Koh Kong’s potential.”
Chinkuo highlighted that while the province has sufficient hotels, resorts, roads, and ports, it lacks other facilities to draw tourists.
“Thus, the Coastal City is focused on establishing the Koh Sdach Port Market to provide diverse services and hospitality to meet all needs,” the Project Director added.
The project is also expected to become a major attraction in Koh Kong province much like the Crab Market in Kep province, which attracts tourists globally.
It may be informed that the Coastal City is the first developer in Cambodia to undertake major projects such as the Dara Sakor International Airport, Dara Sakor International Port, Koh Sdach Port Tourism Zone, the Mountain Golf Course, an asphalt road along with many luxury hotels and resorts.
These projects are among the most significant developments in the Dara Sakor area, enhancing the tourism potential and fostering the overall development of Koh Kong province.
