Cambodia has once again earned global recognition for its premium fragrant rice, as the country’s authorised brand “Angkor Jasmine” was crowned ‘World’s Best Rice’ for the seventh consecutive time at the World Rice Conference 2025, held in Phnom Penh.
The three-day international conference, organised by The Rice Trader (TRT), a publication on global rice industry, from November 7 to 9, 2025, took place at the Shangri-La Hotel in the capital.
The event was hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, the Cambodia Rice Federation, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP). TRT served as the main organiser, with the partner institutions acting as key collaborators.
This latest win marks Cambodia’s seventh triumph in the prestigious global competition, with previous victories recorded in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2022, 2024, and now 2025.
Representatives from more than 40 rice-producing countries attended the conference, which celebrates excellence and innovation in the global rice industry. Cambodia’s victory further cements its position as one of the world’s top producers of high-quality aromatic rice.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce expressed deep appreciation to all stakeholders in the rice sector, including farmers, millers, exporters, and industry partners, for their contributions to this achievement.
The ministry noted that the award reflects Cambodia’s ongoing commitment to improving rice quality, enhancing competitiveness, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
“Winning this award for the seventh time is a great honour for Cambodia and a testament to the hard work of our farmers and the continued support from our partners,” the statement said.
“Angkor Jasmine rice truly represents the pride and excellence of our nation.”
Experts at the conference praised Cambodia’s fragrant rice for its distinctive aroma, soft texture, and exceptional taste – qualities that have consistently impressed international judges and consumers alike.
The World Rice Conference, organised annually by The Rice Trader, is recognised as the premier global event for the rice industry, bringing together producers, traders, researchers, and policymakers to discuss trends, trade, and innovation in the sector.
With this year’s victory, Cambodia continues to strengthen its global rice brand and reaffirm its reputation as a leading supplier of premium quality fragrant rice to international markets.
In its message issued as part of the conference, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) alerted against the spurring aggressive price cuts by leading exporters to maintain market share and clear stockpiles.
“The greatest risk is a continued price war among leading exporters – a race to the bottom that could push rice values to multi-year lows.
“In a glut, the exporter that cuts earlier tends to capture market share, while late cutters suffer steeper price declines with weaker demand response.
“The reality for the rice trade is that you cannot catch demand when the market is rapidly falling.”
