Koh Ho: The Remains of a Small Brick Temple South of Western Reservoir (Photo Story)

SIEM REAP – Koh Ho is a small, crumbling temple nestled among lively villages, swaying palm trees, and lush farmland. Located about 12 kilometers northwest of Siem Reap city center, the temple sits beside the embankment of the vast, man-made Western Reservoir—one of the ancient Angkorian hydraulic wonders.

Built in the 10th century, Koh Ho remains largely overlooked by travelers. Shaded by a pocket of forest, the temple has mostly collapsed, leaving behind scattered bricks, fragments of carved pillars, worn stone pedestals, and a few decorative blocks adorned with faded floral motifs.

Parts of the eastern-facing door frame still stand, bearing weathered inscriptions. Lower down, remnants of brick and laterite structures can still be seen. Like many temples across Cambodia—both grand and modest—Koh Ho continues to hold spiritual significance for local residents.

Although it may appear remote, Koh Ho is situated within Angkor Archaeological Park and is surrounded by other historically important monuments, including Western Mebon and Ak Yum temples. It lies just over a kilometer from the former Siem Reap International Airport, which ceased operations in 2023.

Easily accessible, Koh Ho also serves as a waypoint for those seeking to explore the countryside, offering a peaceful experience amid the natural greenery and tropical climate.
