Koh Rong sees tourism surge

With visitor numbers projected to rise steadily through the rest of the year, Koh Rong is solidifying its reputation as a vibrant global travel hotspot.

Koh Rong Islands have witnessed remarkable tourism growth in recent years, emerging as one of Cambodia’s fastest-growing destinations, a statement issued by Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB) citing Koh Rong Municipality report, yesterday said.

According to the report, the islands welcomed approximately 93,700 visitors in 2023, including 37,275 international travelers.

In 2024, this number nearly doubled to around 184,600 visitors, with 68,257 foreign arrivals. The momentum continued into 2025, with over 100,400 visitors in the first quarter alone, nearly 38,000 of whom were international tourists.

As part of the ongoing festival season, Royal Group Koh Rong Development Company, in partnership with Khmer Beverages, a subsidiary of Chip Mong Group, is hosting a three-day coastal sports and tourism festival on Koh Rong Island, the CTB statement emphasised.

The festival, themed ‘Sports for Tourism, Tourism for All’, features a wide range of activities attracting both domestic and international visitors.

Highlights include a 2,000-meter beach obstacle course from Hill Beach Resort to Nest Beach, beach volleyball competitions, kayaking in the Mangrove Forest Community, a 15-kilometre cycling tour around the island, and an international Kun Khmer boxing tournament.

The organisers said the event aims to promote active lifestyles, foster community engagement, and showcase Koh Rong’s potential as a leading destination for coastal sports, leisure, and sustainable tourism.
