Limassol port manager DP World Limassol on Tuesday announced that it has secured a major vehicle transhipment deal, describing it as “a significant milestone” for the multipurpose terminal.
“This is the first agreement of its kind in nearly two decades, heralding new opportunities for local and regional markets,” the company said.
Under the agreement, approximately 10,000 vehicles from Asia and 7,000 from other countries will be transported and stored at Limassol’s terminal before being exported to neighbouring markets.
The announcement mentioned that “the deal was made possible through intensive efforts by DP World Limassol, in close collaboration with government agencies and local partners”.
Moreover, the company said that it “outperformed competing ports in the region by offering high-quality services, fast processing, and efficient storage solutions”.
What is more, DP World Limassol CEO Simon Pitout stressed the importance of this development.
“We are particularly proud to have secured this agreement in partnership with our public and private sector collaborators, further establishing DP World Limassol as one of the region’s leading service providers,” he said.
“This collaboration showcases our ability to deliver top-tier transhipment solutions while highlighting the strategic significance of Limassol port in the global supply chain,” he added.
Pitout also highlighted the wider benefits of the deal, saying that “this development is expected to bring significant advantages to the local economy”.
He added that the deal “reinforces DP World Limassol’s commitment to promoting growth and innovation within Cyprus’ maritime sector”.
