MoT readies action plan to attract international tourists

The Ministry of Tourism Thursday has unveiled an action plan for the next six months to attract marketers and strengthen private sector connections while supporting the private sector in selling travel packages to attract and facilitate foreign tourists.

Addressing the ‘Cambodia Tourism Revival Workshop’ with the motto of ‘Together, We Can’ coinciding with the newly launched Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB) in Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokheetra, Tourism Minister Sok Soken said, “For the next six months action plan, CTB will focus on attracting marketers, strengthening private sector connections while also supporting the private sector in selling travel packages to attract and facilitate foreign tourists.”

“To effectively implement the project,” Soken said, “MoT has been organising many events and activities to promote the tourism industry such as the ‘Visit Siem Reap 2024’ campaign, the ‘Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year’ and the ‘First Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024’.”

“All these activities are aimed at promoting events such as FAM-Trips, Roadshows and Travel Fairs in both domestic and overseas, especially in Siem Reap province, China and India,” he said.

Soken emphasised that CTB will work closely with MoT to jointly disseminate important events in order to attract more local and international tourists to explore the beauty of the Kingdom.

The Minister said that for the short-term activities within six to 12 months, CTB will focus on expanding awareness of the Kingdom’s reputation as well as organise campaigns overseas, focusing on public relations and strategies to expand the target markets.

“For the medium and long-term activities, the working group will focus on strengthening connection between stakeholders by organising events and forums, developing new tourism products as well as improving infrastructure to facilitate passengers.”

He said that today’s workshop on the rehabilitation of the tourism sector organised by CTB is an important opportunity to promote the development of the industry by fostering a culture of understanding and open dialogue among key stakeholders to make a joint commitment to transform the country into attractive destinations for tourists, investments and trade across Asia.

CTB would play an important role in strengthening and expanding cooperation with development partners while also building public-private partnerships for the prosperity of Cambodia’s tourism sector in the future, Soken added.

The Cambodia Tourism Board CEO Ith Vichit took the podium to introduce the concept of the CTB and the mission propelling it forward.
