New Paphos coastal avenue a priority for local authorities

Authorities in Kato Paphos are embarking on a project to construct a modern four-lane highway.

The road will stretch from the Tombs of the Kings in Kato Paphos to Coral Bay in Peyia, addressing long-standing infrastructure needs in this popular tourist region.

Government departments, planners, and authorities have begun coordinated efforts to realise this significant project, which has been in the planning stages for years.

The aim is to create a four-lane thoroughfare that meets contemporary safety standards and improves public service.

Two meetings have already taken place to coordinate efforts between state services and project planners.

The first was held at the Ministry of Transport over the summer, with a follow-up in Peyia in early September. It is anticipated that the regulatory plan will be finalised by mid-October.

Marinos Lambrou, Mayor of Akamas, emphasised the project’s importance to philenews, noting that the coastal area in question houses nearly 40% of the district’s tourist accommodations.

He pointed out that the current road does not provide ideal safety levels for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, lacking proper lighting and pavements in many sections.

The project’s commencement is slated for 2026. Lambrou expressed the Akamas Municipality’s willingness to contribute to expediting the implementation of this major infrastructure development.
