Nicosia’s Municipal Swimming Pool has reopened to the public after remaining closed for four years whilst undergoing renovation.
The facility, commonly known as “Lellos Pool” amongst locals, suspended operations in September 2021 to allow for renovation works. The municipal pool’s reconstruction was completed in December 2023, though it has since been available only to competitive swimmers.
The pool opened its gates to the general public on Friday morning and will operate throughout the summer until mid-September.

The renovation project cost approximately €6 million, including a ten-year maintenance package from the contractor, according to Deputy Mayor Chrysanthos Fakas. The facility operates in partnership with the Cyprus Swimming Federation, which manages the western section containing the Olympic swimming pools, stands and facilities, whilst the eastern section houses pools belonging to Nicosia Municipality.
According to Nicosia Municipality, the facility operates daily from 10:00 to 18:30. Free parking is available on-site.
Daily entrance fees are structured as follows:
- Children up to 5 years: Free
- Students, soldiers, university students: €5.00

- Couple with three children (under 18): €25.00

An additional charge of €2.00 applies per sun lounger.

The decision to fast-track the facility’s opening comes as the Aglantzia Swimming Pool remains closed for the summer season whilst authorities seek funding for major renovation works. Deputy Mayor Fakas confirmed that the municipal council has set a target to maintain at least one municipal swimming pool open during summer periods until both facilities are fully renovated.
“We recognise the public’s need for a swimming pool in Nicosia Municipality due to the very high temperatures, which is why efforts are being made to operate it as soon as possible,” Fakas told Phileleftheros.
The opening was expedited following complications with last year’s tender process for the main building renovation, which led to the cancellation of the original contract. The building houses essential support facilities including reception areas, changing rooms and showers necessary for public operation.
New equipment including umbrellas and sun loungers has been purchased for the renovated surrounding areas, which feature landscaped green spaces. A new tender will be announced for the main building renovation to complete the ultra-modern facility.
