On the day of the Local Producers and Buyers Marching Forum and Local Products Exhibition in Siem Reap province, senior officials of the One Village, One Product (OVOP) committee urged business owners and the general public to use and buy local products.
Siem Reap provincial authority along with Macro Market in Siem Reap, organized a three-day Local Producers and Buyers Matching Forum and Local Products Exhibition to promote Cambodian products from June 21-23.
Opening the forum and exhibition on Friday, Suong Noy, secretary-general of the National Committee for the Promotion of OVOP, said that establishing this matching platform between producers and buyers requires solidarity based on the principles of integrity, quality, hygiene and keeping prices in line with market price standards.
He said that it also requires the active participation of relevant ministries and departments in promoting the development of new products and strengthening the quality and commercial capacity of existing products.
“Encourage business owners and the general public to participate and buy local products, as the slogan said to buy the Khmer products is patriotic, buy Khmer products win-win together,” Noy said.
Besides Suong Noy, others who participated in the forum include Secretary-General of OVOP, Yun Linne, Siem Reap Deputy Provincial Governor and also representative of Prak Sophoan, Siem Reap Governor, deputy governors of some provinces including Kampong Thom, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Oddor Meanchey, Pursat, Preah Vihear and other some of city-district governors, heads of departments-units around the provinces.
Linne, also the vice chairman for the provincial committee of OVOP, said that the provincial administration, and the Siem Reap One Village, One Product Movement Committee and the secretariat, would like to support, promote and urge the successful implementation of the One Village, One Product Movement to contribute the implementation of the Royal Government’s policies to success.
“This forum is designed to bring local producers and buyers to meet each other and present their products and markets of local products, as well as organize local producers, service providers and craftsmen in local to become members of the One Village, One Product” said Linne.
He added that in order to achieve the action plan of the Royal Government, the Provincial Administration and One Village, One Product committee at the provincial level will make all efforts to cooperate with the municipal, district and relevant departments to implement the work to get better results.
The Provincial Administration and the provincial One Village, One Product committee will continue to advise product owners or traders who have been certified and authorized by the national level to continue their technical efforts and receive national guidance to maintain quality, hygiene and others various techniques of its products.
Local producers showed interest in the forum as it between producers and buyers that has resulted in boosting their business and called on consumers to support local products. They said that the Local Producers and Buyers Marching Forum which the National Committee organized for the One Village, One Product Movement has become a local product promotion event and made their businesses run smoothly.
Pann Sophavy, owner of a bamboo processing handicraft in Prasat Bakong district of Siem Reap province, said that due to this exhibition, her products now got better exposure than the previous forums, because last time there were only buyers who bought daily using, but for this time, buyers are interested and contact to buy wholesale for resale.
“I thank the government for establishing the National Committee for the promotion of the One Village, One Product Movement, which provided an opportunity for producers and buyers to meet,” she said.
