PM Hun Manet celebrates the 73rd anniversary of Cambodia’s membership in UNESCO

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Dr. Hun Manet, posted a message on the morning of July 3, 2024, congratulating the 73rd anniversary of the Kingdom of Cambodia becoming a member of UNESCO (July 3, 1951–July 3, 2024).

The premier stated that since Cambodia became a member of UNESCO, Cambodia has registered four tangible heritage properties, six intangible heritage sites, and three world heritage sites to preserve the original form of culture as well as the priceless heritage left by Khmer ancestors and to commemorate the history of Cambodia, including:

1. The tangible cultural heritage of humanity:

– Angkor Archaeological Park was registered on December 14, 1992, in Santa Fe, USA.

– Preah Vihear Temple was registered on July 7, 2008, in Quebec City, Canada.

– Sambor Prei Kuk temple site was registered on July 8, 2017 in Krakow, Poland.

– Koh Ker Temple Resort was registered on September 17, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

2. The intangible cultural heritage of humanity:

– Royal Ballet was registered on November 7, 2003, in Istanbul, Turkey.

– Sbek Thom or Khmer Shadow Theatre, was registered on November 25, 2005, in Paris, France.

– Tugging rituals and games were registered on December 2, 2015, in Winnipeg, Namibia.

– Chapei Dang Veng was registered on November 30, 2016 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

– Lkhon Khol Wat Svay Andet was registered on November 28, 2018 in Port Louis, Republic of Mauritius.

– Kun Lbokator, traditional martial arts in Cambodia, was registered on November 29, 2022, in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.

3. Memory of the World register:

– Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum Archives, registered on July 31, 2009, in Bridgetown, Barbados.

– The recordings of the Reamker epic by Takrut was registered on May 15, 2014, in Guangzhou, China.

– The Story of Inav Bosiba, registered on October 30, 2017, in Paris, France

The Prime Minister emphasised, “Protection of cultural heritage is the duty of every Cambodian.”
