Prime Minister Hun Manet has expressed his support for 5G mobile phone service. At yesterday’s closing ceremony of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) meeting, which reviewed and assessed the five-year (2020-2024) achievements in digital transformation and set new goals for the coming years, held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, Hun Manet requested that the MPTC prepare a master plan for the 5G mobile phone service in the Kingdom.
“I would like to ask the MPTC to prepare a master plan for the launch of 5G mobile phone service so that the Royal Government can establish a suitable timeframe for the implementation of our telecommunications sector development process,” he stated.
At the same time, the Premier urged all relevant ministries to collaborate and regard telephone and internet services as essential services, akin to electricity and clean water services. Chea Vandeth, Minister of MPTC, noted that Cambodia’s current mobile phone service is 4G and covers approximately 82 percent of the territory. Cambodia has over 20.6 million mobile and landline phone registrations and nearly 19 million internet subscribers. AKP
