Techo International Airport construction reaches 80%, inauguration set for mid-2025

At the end of July, the construction of Techo International Airport has reached over 80% completion, with a total investment of approximately $1.2 billion. The project is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year, Sin Chansery Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, told Fresh News on Monday.

Vutha added that barring any unforeseen delays, the airport will be officially inaugurated in mid-2025, with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet presiding over the ceremony.

The Techo International Airport project was been authorised by the Royal Government of Cambodia and entrusted to Cambodia Airport Investment Company (CAIC).

This joint venture between the Royal Government and the OCIC Group is responsible for the construction and development of the new airport. The project covers an area of 2,600 hectares, situated 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh, spanning across Kandal and Takeo provinces.

The airport, classified as a 4F airport, is designed to accommodate long-haul transcontinental flights and large aircraft, including the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800. Currently, the project employs approximately 15,400 workers, 90% of whom are Khmer.

Additionally, Vutha reported that in the first seven months of the year, the three airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville handled over 30,000 flights, an increase of about 13% compared to the same period last year.

These airports also accommodated more than three million passengers, reflecting a 20% increase, and facilitated the import and export of goods totalling over 42 million kilogrammes, marking a 44% increase. Fresh News
