Techo International Airport (KTI), which is set for the official inauguration today by Prime Minister Hun Manet, has reported robust numbers since starting its commercial operations on September 9, 2025.
According to the data released by the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), KTI has handled an average of 15,000 air passengers daily following the commencement of operations.
Flight movements encompassing both inbound and outbound flows also saw a significant growth at 130 flight movements a day, the data revealed.
The airport is currently being served by 29 airlines, comprising four domestic and 25 international carriers, demonstrating its appeal to the global market.
Lauding the new airport’s impressive numbers, SSCA Secretary of State and spokesman Sinn Chanserey Vutha told Khmer Times, “The initial performance since September 9 reflects the instant success and necessity of Techo International Airport.”
Phase One of the modern 4F-class airport is designed to accommodate up to 13 million passengers and handle 26,000 tonnes of cargo annually, positioning it to facilitate a major expansion in Cambodia’s trade and tourism industries. SSCA has confirmed major new flight routes to Turkey, India, and the Middle East.
“Before the end of 2025, we will see more air passengers passing through the airport following the launch of new routes connecting Cambodia directly with key global markets,” Vutha said.
Etihad Airways already commenced its direct flight from Abu Dhabi, UAE, on October 3, 2025, while Turkish Airlines is expected to begin its service from Istanbul, Turkey, in December 2025.
The $1.5 billion Techo International Airport, located approximately 20 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, replaced the Phnom Penh International Airport.
Techo International Airport is capable of accommodating the world’s largest aircraft, such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747. The airport will expand its annual capacity to 30 million in Phase II and 50 million upon the completion of Phase III by 2050.
The airport received more than 400,000 passengers in September 2025, an increase of more than 15 percent compared to the previous year.
A grand official inaugural ceremony will be held today, which will be viewed as a symbolic milestone, marking Cambodia’s emergence with world-class infrastructure ready to propel its national economy towards its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030.
Mr Hun Manet said during the launch of operations that the aviation sector growth is one of many ways to connect tourists, businesses, political networks and multi-purpose missions.
