Tourism demonstrating an upward trend, Deputy Minister says

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis has said that tourism is demonstrating an upward trend, noting that quarterly results demonstrate an increase of more than 5% compared to the previous year.

In statements after a visit to the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa on 26 April, Koumis welcomed the fact that beaches and services offered have been upgraded and said that tourism in Cyprus had recorded an increase from 2.4 million arrivals in 2016 to almost 4 million in 2023.

Replying to questions, he said that the Deputy Ministry is working hard so that 2024 is yet another successful tourism year. In addition, he said that they place special emphasis on upgrading the country’s tourist product.

The Deputy Minister said that the government is making efforts to utilise the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund, while they have also announced incentive plans concerning specific geographical areas.

“We expect that these plans will be used by local authorities in order to totally upgrade the tourism product,” he concluded.
