The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) has announced the addition of six new flight routes connecting Cambodia to various destinations during the peak season of tourism starting this month.
The new routes are Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville-Phu Quoc by Cambodia Air, Siem Reap Singapore by Air Asia Cambodia, Phuket-Siem Reap by Air Asia Thailand, Bangkok-Siem Reap by Thai Airways, Hanoi-Phnom Penh by Vietnam Airlines, and Xi’An Phnom Penh by Spring Airlines.
From late October, some of these new flight routes have been added and connected while a few others are planning to connect to Cambodia’s international airports from various destinations in the region, SSCA’s Secretary of State and Spokesman Sinn Chanserey Vutha said.
The SSCA expressed enthusiasm about the expansion of Cambodia’s air connectivity.
“This expansion is expected to significantly boost the country’s aviation sector, enhance air connectivity and stimulate tourism growth,” Vutha told Khmer Times on Monday.
“These new routes will enhance Cambodia’s accessibility for international travellers. The newly added routes will provide travellers with convenient and direct flights to Cambodia,” he added.
The aviation sector in Cambodia has been experiencing steady growth in recent years, driven by increased demand for air travel and government initiatives to modernize the country’s airport infrastructure.
Cambodia reported more than 4.5 million air travellers during the January-October period of 2024, up about 22 percent from 3.7 million over the same period in 2023, SSCA’s report showed.

More than 30 international and domestic airlines are operating flights, linking Cambodia to eight countries in ASEAN, China, South Korea, India, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
The country’s efforts to modernize its airports and improve infrastructure have played a crucial role in attracting new airlines and boosting tourism.
Currently, there are three international airports, two of which – Phnom Penh International Airport and Sihanoukville International Airport – are under the management of Cambodia Airport. The Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is under the management of the Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia).
As of the first week this month, the construction of the Techo International Airport has completed 90 percent work. The airport is built at a cost of more than $1.3 billion. “If nothing changes, Techo International Airport is scheduled to be officially inaugurated in mid-2025,” he said.
SSCA is projecting an impressive 67 percent recovery in air traffic for the entire year of 2024 compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic benchmark.
