Synopsis: 70,000 show up on TVET Day to find out how a technical and vocational education can give them an edge in job market.
The 8th National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day event ended yesterday, having attracted more participants than last year.
Sovann Vannaroth, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, said at the closing event yesterday that 70,000 people participated in TVET Day events across the capital and provinces this year. This indicates a significant increase in participation compared to last year, which saw about 60,000 participants.
In terms of the number of public and private institutions taking part in the exhibition, it increased by 38, compared to the 100 institutions taking part last year.
This year saw an outstanding level of participation, including the sharing of experiences in skills development and programmes under Malaysia’s ASEAN Year of Skills 2025 programme, as well as the involvement of TVET institutions from China.
“All of this clearly shows that the (TVET) sector in Cambodia is making remarkable progress,” said Vannaroth.
“Many Cambodian youths, as students of TVET institutions, have developed various types of advanced robots. Numerous local and international companies also participated in showcasing their products. Additionally, there was a massive turnout of young people, students, and other stakeholders who attended the event and are increasingly showing interest in the field of technical and vocational education and training.”
Moon Chansopana, a third-year student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the National Technical Training Institute, said she brought two coffee-making robots, created by her and her schoolmates, to display at the 8th TVET Day.

“The TVET exhibition gave students the opportunity to show their talents and creativity to the public and the response we received from the visitors was encouraging and appreciative,” she said.
Another student Sophea Rattanak, in her third-year at the Faculty of General Mechanics of the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC), brought a drone that can take off and land vertically. Other work by NPIC students included a robotic dog, which entertained and amused many visitors.
“The visitors were interested in our drone and robot. They showed admiration for our achievement and were amazed that students could produce drones and robots,” she added.
The government’s TVET policy focuses on building and developing human capital with quality, capability, professional skills, creativity and high competitiveness, aiming to fulfil the vision of “every citizen has at least one skill for life.”
