US agrees to boost trade cooperation with Cambodia

The United States and the Royal Government of Cambodia Tuesday agreed to promote trade and investment activities between the two countries.

This was conveyed to Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) during a meeting with Daleep Singh, Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs of the United States at the White House in Washington DC on October 1.

During the meeting, Chanthol briefed on the fruitful cooperation between the two countries while demonstrating investment opportunities and potential in Cambodia which are favourable to the American private companies to invest in the country.

According to the CDC announcement, Cambodia and US representatives expressed their willingness to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation between both countries through trade and investment activities.

The US Deputy Advisor praised the Royal Government of Cambodia for its efforts to advance national economic development under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Chanthol also met with Scoot Nathan, CEO of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) where he highlighted the development progress in Cambodia under peace and political stability, allowing him to lead the delegation to attract and promote investment opportunities in the United States.

The Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned the progress in a number of areas across the country including infrastructure, agriculture, health and welfare of the people which has been improved significantly. “Even so, it remains in the priority of the government to strengthen and expand productivity,” he said.

During the meeting, Nathan expressed optimism to expand operations in the Kingdom, particularly in the priority areas outlined by the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Based on the US government release, DFC is an American government agency that provides financing for development projects in emerging markets and low-income countries.

Established in 2019, DFC aims to promote sustainable development by investing in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and technology.

The agency supports private sector investment in development by offering loans, loan guarantees, equity investments, political risk insurance, and technical assistance.
